Happy New Year to all! Hybrid learning will start on January 19, 2021.

Adaptive Pause in Northfield Township Elementary Districts
Dear Members of the District 27, 28, 30 and 34 School Communities,
The elementary school districts in Northfield Township have made a unified decision to take an Adaptive Pause. Each district has developed a schedule for the transition into a full remote environment, which will remain in effect through Friday, January 15 (returning Tuesday, January 19 after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday). You will receive your district-specific information in a separate email.
The Cook County Department of Public Health recently stated that our schools should “strongly consider remote learning given the presence of sustained community transmission.” We have considered a number of factors in following this recommendation:
We know that you have many questions specific to your schools and schedules. Again, staff and families will receive detailed information about your district’s plans in a separate email.

☀️ August 2020 🚌
Welcome back to school! We hope that you and your family had a wonderful summer and that you all stayed safe and healthy during this pandemic.
The EL Team will be reaching out to new families who indicated that a language, other than English, was spoken at home during the registration process. When a child enters a public school district for the first time and a language other than English is spoken within the home, then by law, we are required to conduct a language screener for the child. This screener is used to check the child's English language proficiency. It is NOT a test that measures academic achievement.
Westbrook is open and we have safety measures in place to safely conduct an in-person screening. We require a face covering at all times and some direct contact with testing materials is required. We thoroughly sanitize all testing items and seating areas after each appointment.
We anticipate the screening process for kindergarteners to take between 30-45 minutes and first/second graders to take 60-75 minutes.
Once we have finished screening all incoming students, we will mail out screening results. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 847-998-5055.

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful winter break.
Between January 15th and February 18th your child will take a test called ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Comprehension in English State-to-State). This test has 4 parts (listening, speaking, reading and writing). The state uses this test to check your child's language proficiency/skills.
All students in kindergarten through 8th grade who are identified as English Learners (EL) are required to take the test, even if they are not receiving EL services.
If you have any questions, please contact any EL teacher.

- The comprehensive Northfield Township Elementary School District dashboard shows substantial community transmission of COVID-19 in every metric for Region 10 (suburban Cook County), Northfield Township, and adjacent zip codes
- Staffing and substitute challenges due to isolations, quarantines and other factors created by the increasing community spread of COVID-19
- Holiday considerations, including:
- Expected travel under CCDPH travel guidelines
- The return of college students to our community
- Gatherings with others outside immediate family
We know that you have many questions specific to your schools and schedules. Again, staff and families will receive detailed information about your district’s plans in a separate email.
